New graduates of Penn State's Eberly College of Science listened to the commencement address provided by United States Secretary of Energy Steven Chu during spring 2012 graduation ceremonies held May 5 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus.

A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

Engineering Open House offers glimpse of majors, programs

Prospective students and their parents can explore engineering majors available at Penn State at the Engineering Open House on Saturday, Feb. 28.

The day's events begin at 8 a.m. and include programs in the College of Engineering, the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences and the College of Information Sciences and Technology.

Open house activities include information sessions on special programs, department tours and campus tours. Faculty, staff and students will be on hand to answer questions about advising, financial aid, housing, cooperative education, study abroad and more.

Preregistration is recommended. A schedule of events and registration information are available online at www.engr.psu.edu/OpenHouse.
