Fans advised of cold, messy weather for Saturday's game

University Park, Pa. — Fans attending the Penn State vs. Michigan State game at 3:30 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 22) at Beaver Stadium are advised that extremely cold temperatures and some snow are expected to continue in the State College area.

Weather forecasts for the State College area are predicting snow showers Friday and Saturday that could accumulate 1-3 inches. Temperatures are expected to reach a high of only 30 degrees with wind chills around 20 degrees. Higher snowfall totals are expected in other parts of Pennsylvania, and travelers should consult local weather and road conditions before driving. Fans should dress in layers as temperatures will drop throughout the afternoon.

Penn State officials say that conditions Saturday in and around the stadium likely will be cold, wet and slippery.  Stadium crews will be working to keep access ways clear, but seats and foot space could be snow covered Saturday. After snow is cleared Friday evening, crews will apply deicer and anti-skid material. Even after snow is cleared ice spots on steel structures may be difficult to see.

Additional staff and volunteers will be on hand early at the stadium to help in the clean-up.

To help navigate the cold and messy conditions, fans are encouraged to dress warmly, wear boots with snow- and ice-worthy soles, be mindful of road and walking conditions, come early and take their time and help their fellow fans.

Parking also is expected to be less efficient because of the snow. Fans are encouraged to consider park-and-ride options. The Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) provides a Game Day Football Shuttle with two routes serving downtown State College and South Atherton Street. Additional shuttles are available from locations on North Atherton Street, the Benner Pike Wal-Mart and the Penn State Altoona campus.
