With four guide ropes attached to it, the east-side clock face is raised into position. While it didn't seem that windy on the ground on Saturday, Jan. 28, winds higher up were strong, requiring extra guidance to bring the clock face safely to the Old Main bell tower.

The company installed a new carillon system today (Jan. 27) that will play a digital recording made of the original Old Main bell that now sits adjacent to Old Main and other bells of comparable sizes.

Week of events planned for Homecoming 2008

University Park, Pa. -- Homecoming 2008: Inspired by Tradition is right around the corner. Festivities start Oct. 12 and run until the Homecoming football game against Michigan on Oct. 18.

The first event of the week is the East Halls celebration, which will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 13, in Findlay Commons.

Homecoming's newest event, the Past to Present Celebration, will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, in the HUB-Robeson Center. The event will transform the HUB into Penn State from past to present and will include constant performers in a variety of magical, comedy, dance and musical performances.

The Airbands competition also will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, in Eisenhower Auditorium. Tickets are free with a Penn State ID and are required for admission. They can be picked up at the ticket office at Eisenhower Auditorium.

From 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, students and alumni can join together at the Student-Alumni Ice Cream Social. The Hintz Family Alumni Center will have free ice cream, prizes and visits with all of the favorite Penn State celebrities. Later, Penn State fans can watch the parade starting at 6 p.m. on campus and downtown. Immediately following the parade, the Pep Rally featuring the football team and the Blue Band will be held at Old Main.

Lastly, be sure to vote for this year’s Homecoming King and Queen starting at 8 a.m. Monday, Oct.13. Voting closes at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17. Voting can be done at http://homecoming.psu.edu. More information on any event and the Homecoming Court can be found there as well.
