University Park, Pa. -- Just in time for the first official day of summer on the University Park campus, Penn State's Berkey Creamery and its famous ice cream are in the national cable television spotlight ... twice.

Both the Travel Channel and and the History Channel brought their crews to the University's new Food Science Building to film footage at the Creamery. Already airing on the Travel Channel's "Food Paradise" program is its "Ice Cream Paradise" episode, which features in-store segments speaking with Creamery patrons and interviews with Creamery manager Tom Palchak and Ice Cream Short Course director Bob Roberts, associate professor of food science.

The show is next scheduled to air from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 22.

Debuting the following evening in primetime, the History Channel's "Modern Marvels" will air its "Ice Cream" episode from 8 to 9 p.m. Eastern time Monday, June 23. A behind-the-scenes story about this show, on the science of ice-cream making, can be found here.

"Over the years we've had many opportunities to share the Creamery's story with not only friends of Penn State but also the public at large. Food science and the Berkey Creamery are true Penn State success stories, and we are always happy and willing to portray the University in positive manner," said Palchack about the filming experience.

"The film crews are hard-working professionals yet good natured and willing to have some fun during the shoots," he added. "My contributions have always been easy to do, and why wouldn't they -- I'm talking about ice cream!"

For ice cream entrepreneurs and enthusiasts, respectively, the annual Ice Cream Short Course will be held Jan. 4-10, 2009, and Ice Cream 101: Introduction to Frozen Desserts will be held Jan. 24-25, 2009, both on the University Park campus.
