PSUTXT test a success

Monday, March 31, 2008

University Park, Pa. -- As part of its ongoing emergency preparedness plans, Penn State Monday (March 31) conducted a successful test of its PSUTXT text-messaging alert system to more than 38,000 subscribers University-wide.

The test was designed to test the server's ability to handle both the number of people simultaneously sending messages, and the number of messages being sent. Both parts of the test went well, with no major issues encountered.

Those who did not receive the message but thought they were subscribed should log into the PSUTXT system by going to http://newswires.psu.edu/ and clicking on the "PSUTXT LOGIN" button at the bottom of the page.

"Once logged in, they should update their cell phone information, and then click on 'Services' to have a new validation code sent," Ara Bagdasarian, president of e2Campus, said. "Once they receive the validation code, they need to enter it on the registration page on the Web site to complete the process and validate their accounts."

Subscribers who continue to have difficulty validating their account should visit http://omnilertsupport.com/e2campus/.

Anyone who has not yet subscribed to PSUTXT should go to http://newswires.psu.edu/ and click on the "PSUTXT REGISTER" button at the bottom of the page to sign up. For more information, e-mail AMountz@psu.edu.

Penn State launched PSUTXT in August 2006 as an additional way to notify the University community of situations that disrupt the normal operations of a campus. The system is used in conjunction with the Penn State Live Web site at http://live.psu.edu as well as with the Penn State Newswire system and other communications methods.
