Brain Awareness Week is March 12-18, and the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience is planning a number of events in cooperation with the Penn State Hershey Medical Center and the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts.
Activities begin at 1 p.m. Friday, March 15, with a lecture at the Medical Center by scientist Ronald McKay, a senior investigator at National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke in Bethesda, Md. McKay is studying stem cell differentiation. His talk will be "How stem cells build the brain and why it matters." This lecture is open to the public and lunch will be provided.
Brain Awareness Day is March 16 at the Whitaker Center in Harrisburg. Activities will include hands-on exhibits from the Medical Center showcasing brain function, health and research, and interactive demonstrations by faculty and staff involved in the neurosciences.
