Gypsy moth spray application via helicopter will occur on Penn State University Park's central campus at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 26. The aerial application will cover all areas between North Atherton Street and University Drive and Park Avenue to College Avenue, as well as the immediate area around the Schreyer House. Recent analysis has shown that the campus has experienced a wind dispersal of gypsy moth caterpillars. This controlled aerial application will be dispersing BT (Bacillus thuringiensis), an environmentally safe, naturally occurring organic agent. BT is widely used in integrated pesticide management practices and can be washed off easily with soap and water. Helicopter application should be completed by 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. Sunday and Monday are back-up days in case of bad weather.
