With four guide ropes attached to it, the east-side clock face is raised into position. While it didn't seem that windy on the ground on Saturday, Jan. 28, winds higher up were strong, requiring extra guidance to bring the clock face safely to the Old Main bell tower.

Ben White of New Vibrations Audio and Video works on a ledge of the Old Main bell tower, to remove the speakers from the old chime system. The company installed a new carillon system today (Jan. 27) that will play a digital recording made of the original Old Main bell that now sits adjacent to Old Main and other bells of comparable sizes.

WebMail users to be migrated to WebMail2 during August

Thursday, July 27, 2006

University Park, Pa. -- Current Penn State WebMail users will be migrated to a new, improved version, WebMail2, beginning on Aug. 3.

Originally, WebMail was designed by Information Technology Services (ITS) as an e-mail reader for users on-the-go. Since its creation in 2000, it has grown in popularity and now is used as a primary e-mail client throughout the entire University community, serving more than 55,000 users per day. WebMail2 is designed to meet this growing demand.

For the Penn State community to fully enjoy WebMail2's new and improved features, groups of users of the current WebMail service will be migrated to the new system throughout the entire month of August. The conversion is expected to be completed by the first day of classes on Sept. 5. Daily migrations will occur only between the hours of 1 and 6 a.m. Those who are being migrated will not be able to access e-mail via WebMail during the migration. Should users attempt to access WebMail during the migration time frame, they will see detailed error messages within the WebMail client to inform them that migration is taking place for their respective accounts.

With the culmination of this effort, WebMail users will be able to enjoy a number of new features, including 500MB of fast and dedicated e-mail storage space (in addition to an original gigabyte of PASS space); a tabbed interface; filters for organizing mail and filtering spam; an enhanced message composition screen with an HTML editor and improved spell-checker; and customizable interface themes. For additional information and migration details, visit http://aset.its.psu.edu and https://webmail.psu.edu/ online.
