With four guide ropes attached to it, the east-side clock face is raised into position. While it didn't seem that windy on the ground on Saturday, Jan. 28, winds higher up were strong, requiring extra guidance to bring the clock face safely to the Old Main bell tower.

Upgrade slated for Penn State Search Engine July 11

Thursday, May 18, 2006

Academic Services and Emerging Technologies (ASET), a unit of Information Technology Services (ITS), will upgrade the Penn State Search Engine on July 11 to a newer version of Google Search Appliance. During the pre-scheduled maintenance window from 5 to 7 a.m. July 11, searches invoking the Penn State Search Engine will be disrupted for a short period while the upgraded model is installed.

Webmasters should refer to the Penn State Search Engine documentation or to future ASET presentations for more information on how to implement changes before July 11. To aid in the transition to the new version of Google Search Appliance, members of the Penn State Search Engine Team will offer a series of presentations on the upgrade, including a Penn State Web Developer's Luncheon on May 16 and a Penn State Web Conference session on June 13.

More information regarding the upgrade, including features that may require changes to some Web sites invoking the search engine, is available at http://aset.its.psu.edu/googledocs/2006_upgrade/ online. Questions regarding the upgrade should be sent to search@psu.edu via e-mail.
