With four guide ropes attached to it, the east-side clock face is raised into position. While it didn't seem that windy on the ground on Saturday, Jan. 28, winds higher up were strong, requiring extra guidance to bring the clock face safely to the Old Main bell tower.

Ben White of New Vibrations Audio and Video works on a ledge of the Old Main bell tower, to remove the speakers from the old chime system. The company installed a new carillon system today (Jan. 27) that will play a digital recording made of the original Old Main bell that now sits adjacent to Old Main and other bells of comparable sizes.

The funeral procession for Joe Paterno made its way past Beaver Stadium and down Porter Road as crowds applauded on Jan. 25. Thousands lined the procession route through the University Park campus and downtown State College to bid a last farewell to Joe Paterno.

Katie Knobloch and Andrew Adamietz, members of the a capella group Blue in the Face, shared a candle at the vigil held Sunday, Jan. 22, to mourn the death of Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, who passed away earlier in the day. Several thousand members of the Penn State and State College community came out to the Old Main lawn on Penn State's University Park campus for the vigil.

Penn State Golf Courses to offer free lessons

Golf pros Joe Hughes, Steve Eskey, Josh Trimble, Brian Short, Adam Corson, Sara Doell, Jeb Lipez, Andy Glover and Grayson Zacker of Penn State Golf Courses will offer free 10-minute lessons in May in conjunction with PGA Free Lesson Month, the national growth-of-the-game campaign. The event is a joint partnership between The PGA of America, Golf Digest, Golf for Women and The Golf Channel. Nike Golf is the official sweepstakes sponsor.

Penn State Golf Courses' free lesson program will be noon to 4 p.m. May 27. To participate in PGA Free Lesson Month at Penn State Golf Courses, amateur golfers must contact The Golf Shop at (814) 863-0257.

"PGA Free Lesson Month is a great opportunity for local non-golfers to come out and get introduced to the game of golf, or for existing golfers to focus on a specific area they want to improve," said Steve Eskey, events coordinator/assistant golf professional, Penn State Golf Courses. "We welcome all those who would like to participate and encourage them to bring a friend or family member and come out and have some fun, regardless of skill level."
