He made it through the first six episodes using his swimming skills, endurance and easygoing personality to gain friends and help Koror tribe win rewards and immunity challenges, and Penn Stater Ian Rosenberger was determined to keep proving his worth to his tribe at the start of episode seven of "Survivor: Palau" on CBS. Rosenberger and fellow Survivor Tom Westman continued to be the main food providers for Koror tribe, as Rosenberger harvested a huge clam that provided the tribe with about half a pound of food for each of the tribe's eight members. Westman outdid Rosenberger, though, as he managed to disable and catch a black-tipped reef shark that came a little too close to shore. "You try to be the provider, and then somebody has to go and one-up you" by bringing in a shark, Rosenberger said in a good-natured way as he helped to butcher the animal. In the first challenge of the show, both tribes were instructed to build the best signal fire they could. Ulong tribe, which was down to three people, dismantled their bathroom, using the bamboo and leaves to form the basis of their signal, which spelled their tribe name. To make the competition equal, Koror tribe had to choose three members to build their signal fire. Greg Carey, Caryn Groedel and Katie Gallagher built the signal fire for Koror using bamboo and coconut to outline letters that spelled "got food." Once again, Koror was judged to have done the better job. They won yet another challenge, getting a supply of red wine and military-style packaged food to supplement the clam and shark provided by Rosenberger and Westman. For the immunity challenge, the tribes had to solve a large puzzle that was floating on the water, with two swimmers moving the pieces and one caller directing them. With five Koror tribe members being forced to sit out each challenge, Rosenberger took a seat on the sidelines for the second challenge in a row. Once again, Koror won the challenge, avoiding tribal council and ensuring that all eight members, including Rosenberger, would return for episode eight, scheduled to air at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 7, on CBS. Roseberger, 23, a native of Ambridge, majored in agricultural extension and educational leadership at Penn State, and served as student government president.
