Spring is officially here, and that means millions of young men and women in the United States will say "I do" within the next few months. It also is the first time that a new course, "The American Wedding," is being offered at Penn State Abington. The course, which is offered to upper-level students in the American studies and sociology programs on campus, focuses on the history and background of weddings in America; prewedding activities such as bridal showers, and bachelor and bachelorette parties; the lucrative wedding industry; honeymoons; and much more. Beth Montemurro, assistant professor of sociology and a researcher who has had her work on prewedding activities published, teaches the course.
