With four guide ropes attached to it, the east-side clock face is raised into position. While it didn't seem that windy on the ground on Saturday, Jan. 28, winds higher up were strong, requiring extra guidance to bring the clock face safely to the Old Main bell tower.

The company installed a new carillon system today (Jan. 27) that will play a digital recording made of the original Old Main bell that now sits adjacent to Old Main and other bells of comparable sizes.

Tuesday, March 8, 2005

The 10th Annual Inspiration Award Dinner will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at The Nittany Lion Inn, University Park, to benefit juvenile diabetes research at the Penn State Diabetes Center. A social hour begins at 6 p.m. The dinner, which attracts more than 400 people each year, punctuates the urgent need for research in the management of juvenile diabetes and supports efforts to find better treatments and, ultimately, a cure. Tickets to attend the dinner are $60 and attendees can participate in silent and live auctions. In addition, a number of sponsorship opportunities are available.

The keynote speaker at this year’s event will be Rene Portland, Penn State women’s basketball head coach. Master of ceremonies will be Kristine Clark, director of sports nutrition at Penn State, and the Inspiration Award’s first honoree in 1994, who since has served as a board member for the event.

Penn State Diabetes Center is a collaboration of scientists and health-care providers at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State University Park dedicated to increasing the scientific and medical knowledge needed to eradicate diabetes and help those with diabetes enjoy healthy lives.
