Penn State Survivor update: Rosenberger still going strong

Penn Stater Ian Rosenberger continues to excel in the CBS-TV reality show Survivor: Palau.

In episode three last night (March 3), Rosenberger once again made a difference in the game. On the way back to camp after losing the reward challenge, Kuror tribe spotted poisonous sea snakes. Although Rosenberger said he felt bad about killing a snake outright because he works with dolphins, he did help kill three sea snakes. They hung the snakes over the water before trying to prepare them as food, and saw three black-tip reef sharks circling, drawn by the blood. Rosenberger and others went into the water, using pieces of the sea snakes as bait, to try to get a shark. The sharks were wary, however, and did not swim close enough to be speared.

This week's immunity challenge called for the Koror and Ulong tribes to walk around a circular path in the ocean, with each tribe member carrying a backpack filled with 20 pounds of sand. If a member of a tribe dropped out, he or she had to hand off the weight to another tribe member. The goal was to catch up to the other tribe and tag a member of that tribe.

By the end of the challenge, Ian, Tom and Greg were the only three left in Koror tribe, but they made slow but steady progress to catch up to Ulong tribe. As they got close, Ian leapt and jumped on Ulong tribe member Ibrehem to win the challenge and secure immunity for his Koror tribe, guaranteeing that they all would survive to the next episode.

Tune in to see how Rosenberger fares in the next episode of Survivor: Palau, scheduled to air at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 10. Roseberger, 23, a native of Ambridge, majored in agricultural extension and educational leadership at Penn State, and served as student government president.
