Hundreds of community members and Penn State Altoona students, faculty and staff packed along 12th Avenue in downtown Altoona, Sunday, Oct. 25, as the campus celebrated its 70th anniversary. With blue skies and plenty of sunshine, live entertainment, give-a-ways, food and children's activities, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

The band Silver Sunday took to the stage for about 45 minutes and entertained the crowd with 70s, 80s and 90s music along with some modern rock. The band's drummer, Todd Harshbarger, works in Penn State Altoona's instructional services.

The birthday bash continued into the evening at the Jaffa Mosque in Altoona with a live concert by the Doobie Brothers. Chancellor Lori J. Bechtel-Wherry introduced the band.

To wrap up Penn State Altoona's 70th anniversary celebration, the class rock band The Doobie Brothers played to a packed house of nearly 4,000. The group rocked out for about an hour and a half at the Jaffa Mosque in Altoona.
