Carl Raup of State College served as referee/starter for the 50 meter freestyle swimming event at McCoy Natatorium on Friday morning, June 5. Raup is one of 2,500 volunteers from the community, organizations, and corporations around the state who make the Special Olympics Summer Game possible for more than 2,000 athletes and 750 coaches.

Nine athletes competed in the 800 meter race, in four different heats, during the 2009 Special Olympics Summer Games, held on Penn State's University Park campus for the 22nd year. Track and field events were held in spite of the unseasonably cool, rainy weather.
