Fans cheer members of the Penn State basketball team as they arrive at Madison Square Garden in advance of the championship game. In addition to the greeting by the fans, the team went through a human tunnel formed by the pep band, which sang school songs and clapped as the players made their way into the Garden. The game felt like a home game for the team, as 36 buses loads of Penn State fans make the trip to see the game.

The scoreboard tells the story. With the 69-63 victory over Baylor, the Penn State Nittany Lions were crowned NIT champions, for the first time in program history. The victory concludes the Lions longest season in history. Penn State played a record 38 games and started the season in August with a four-game exhibition tour in Toronto, Canada. A season that spanned 10 months saw the program's first games ever in August become book ended by Penn State's first ever game in April which was made possible by a program record tying six wins in the month of March.

Senior Jamelle Cornley found his mom in the crowd after last night's NIT championship victory. Cornley, who led Penn State with 18 points and seven rebounds, was named the NIT MVP despite playing the last three games of the tournament with his partially separated left shoulder tightly wrapped.
