Swimmers participate in trials during Swimming Camp 1. During the course of the week, each participant is videotaped during trials while being critiqued by coaches and instructors. A DVD recording of their progress is provided to each swimmer at the end of the camp, allowing each participant to take home a constructive record of their personal performance.

Good weather graced participants during the final days of Football Camp 1. Intermittant strong storms delayed the outdoor activities on several occasions, although the Lasch Sports Facility/Holuba Hall was available for indoor practice as well. Penn State assistant coach Larry Johnson, who oversaw over 750 defense participants, said that the 780-plus high school camp participants showed a common eagerness to learn and willingness to improve. Technique, coordination and attitude were the facets most improved upon during the week, stated Johnson.

Jesstin (in blue), completes a catch during a wide receiver drill series during Football Camp 1. Jesstin, from Maryland, will be a sophomore this year. He cited the excellent curriculum, coaching, fellow participants and range of learning as reasons for why he has returned this summer, his second at this camp. The camps were held on the Bigler & flower garden fields. Holuba Hall was available for inside work during stormy weather.

Participants in Tennis Camp 1 had the opportunity to attend clinics by coaches, play against Penn State varsity athletes, and compete against each other during impromptu skills games, such as the match of King of the Court seen here. It was her first year coming to this camp, and she most appreciated the different styles, views and techniques presented by the coaching staff, as well as the drills used to solidify those points.

Clinics also were a large part of the camp. Coaches and instructors, hailing from universities and professional/semi-professional teams alike, presented strategy, technique and concepts to the participants, and then led the group in drills reflecting the ideas taught.

Practice sessions began with a specialized stretching routine led by staff. According to camp instructor Brett Wilson, the boys used the time to get their bodies and minds set for the practice ahead.

The USA Hockey Camp, running from June 15 through 20, included activities for youth hockey players above the novice level. Participants, split between the White and Yellow teams, played against one another in scrimages in addition to practicing techniques and drills led by the coaching staff.
