Corey Magloire, a freshman at Penn State York, was one of 82 people who participated in Penn State York's bone marrow drive on Jan. 29. Magloire decided to participate in the drive because he wanted to help other people and especially children. The National Marrow Donor Program reports that there are not enough registry members of diverse racial and ethnic heritage. To order a bone marrow registry kit, go to www.marrow.org/ online.

Justin Bradley, a community member, checks out the guidelines for joining the bone marrow registry before moving on to the next station. Penn State York student Savannah Smith, from Red Lion, Pa., spearheaded the idea to do a drive and knows personally the importance of bone marrow drives and transplants. Smith’s brother Jed battled acute lymphoblastic leukemia for almost eight years until he died on Jan. 3. Bradley is a neighbor of the Smiths and knew Jed.
